Who we are: Rebuilding Together Detroit is an affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together organization, and one of over 250 such chapters throughout the country. The national organization began in Midland, Texas in 1972, when a group of neighbors joined together to make repairs to the homes of those that could not afford or were not physically able to make the repairs themselves. The original name was coined after an elderly homeowner walked into her home to see the improvements that were made. Thrilled with what she saw, she exclaimed, "I just can't believe this is happening! It's like Christmas in April!"
Rebuilding Together Detroit originated in 2005. Since then, RTD Board of Directors have been successful in greatly expanding our organization while continuing in their efforts to strengthen and build low-income communities.
Our Mission: Rebuilding Together Detroit’s mission is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners from the elderly and disabled, to families with children live in warmth, safety and independence. In partnership with communities, our goal is to make a sustainable impact.
Our Vision: To be the most comprehensive, effective and sought after home repair program for the low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in the City of Detroit.
